Public Appeal: Help Needed in Identifying Cash Machine Thief

In a distressing incident, a 78-year-old woman fell victim to a theft at a cash machine, resulting in a loss of £200. The thief took advantage of her unease caused by his presence, and as a consequence, she left her bank card in the machine.

The elderly victim had initially attempted to access a bank statement, but the man standing behind her made her feel uncomfortable. Consequently, she decided to step back and allow him to use the machine first, inadvertently leaving her bank card in the device.

Exploiting the situation, the man quickly used her bank card, withdrew £200, and absconded with both her money and card.

Nottinghamshire Police is actively pursuing the case and seeking information to apprehend the person responsible. They have released a CCTV image of a man whom they believe can assist in their ongoing investigation.

The incident occurred on Southchurch Drive, Clifton, just before 7 am on 8th July 2023.

PC Sophie Elsom from Nottinghamshire Police commented on the incident: “This was a very cruel and unpleasant offence which left the victim feeling very distressed. As part of our inquiries, I am urging the man pictured, or anyone who recognises him, to please get in touch with us."
